How to Play

Play Battleship game online for free. Battleship is an HTML5 game based on the classic Battleship strategy board game where 2 players must destroy each other's warships by guessing their position. The first player to destroy all their enemy's warships wins. This game is rendered in mobile-friendly HTML5, so it offers cross-device gameplay. You can play it on mobile devices like Apple iPhones, Google Android powered cell phones from manufactures like Samsung, tablets like the iPad or Kindle Fire, laptops, and Windows-powered desktop computers. All game files are stored locally in your web browser cache. This game works in Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and other modern web browsers.

  • Starting the Game
    • Select start when the game opens. Then, press the play button to begin the game.
    • This takes you to the game screen where it flashes a demo game.
    • To stop the demo, select the red X button on the right corner of the demo screen.
    • Once the demo is stopped, you can start playing the game.
      • On the top right corner of the opening screen is the audio button. Select this to mute or unmute the game’s sound effects.
      • Game Controls
        • You must first shuffle all your 5 ships in the map.
        • Then, the blasting begins. This is where you must guess your enemy’s position.
        • If you blast all your enemy’s ships first, you win. You lose if the enemy destroys all your ships first.
        • Blasting the front or back tip of your enemy’s ship sometimes destroys the entire ship.
        • Likewise, if front or back tips of your ship is blasted, it destroys your entire ship.
          • Touchscreen
            • On the bottom left corner of the screen is the SHUFFLE button. Tap this to select the position of your ships on the map.
            • Once you’re satisfied with the position of your ships, you can begin the game.
            • On the bottom right corner of the screen is the START button. Tap this to start the game.
            • Once the game starts, the blasting commences. Whoever blasts first is selected randomly by the game.
            • To blast, simply tap the square you want to target. The torpedo will automatically go there.
            • When it’s your turn to blast, the screen flashes that it’s your turn.
            • A square burns with fire if you successfully blast a ship. The square turns green if you miss.
            • You can only blast once with each turn. Make your targets count.
              • Mouse
                • On the bottom left corner of the screen is the SHUFFLE button. Left click this to select the position of your ships on the map.

                • Other In-Game Buttons
                  • On the top right corner of the screen is the audio button. Select this to turn the game’s sound effects on or off.
                  • On the top left corner of the screen is the home button. Select this if you want to stop the game, and if you want to start a new game.
                  • There is no pause button in the game. Because there are no time limits to blasting, a pause button is not necessary. You can leave for a while and the game will still be there.
                  • Strategy
                    • The idea is to blast all your enemy’s ships first before they defeat you. This is the only way you can win.
                    • To win naval war combat, you must master two crucial tactical aspects of the game: Shuffling your ship’s positions and locating your enemy’s ships.
                    • Shuffling Your Ship’s Position
                      • You are given an area with 10 x 6 squares.
                      • You must place 5 ships strategically so your enemy does not find and destroy your ships right away.
                        • As a tip, try to scatter your ships in such a way that your enemy won’t locate them too closely.
                        • When ships are too close, it’s easy for the enemy to blast around ships they already found.
                        • An entire ship is destroyed when the enemy blasts the front tip.
                        • Sometimes, it only takes one blast to destroy your entire ship when the enemy locates a vertical ship.
                        • Thus, try to avoid too many vertical positions when you shuffle your ships.
                        • There is no limit to shuffling. You can shuffle ship position any number of times before starting the game.
                          • Locating the Position of Enemy Ships
                            • The first blast is always a guess. So try to aim where you think a ship might be located.
                            • Once you locate a ship, hit any square around it. This will give you an idea where the res t of the ship’s body is.
                            • It’s easy to target the longest ship which occupies 5 squares. You and your enemy get one long ship.
                            • Medium-length ships are also easier to find as they occupy three squares.
                            • It’s harder to locate the small ships that occupy 2 squares.
                            • The idea is to deduce the location of other ships based on the one’s you’ve blasted.
                            • If you’re not getting luck blasting close to ships you found, blast squares farther away.
                            • You may find that your enemy placed ships far apart, or some close to each other.
                            • Guessing where your enemy’s ships are is a race against time. You must destroy them before they sink all your ships.
                            • You only get one blast per turn. So make your targets count. The more your blasts hit a ship, the sooner you can take your enemy down.
                            • Enjoy playing this competitive war battle game again and again. It’s nice to win now and then. But to take the game further, try to beat the computer two or three consecutive times. It will surely be a challenge.
